| This deck and guidebook gives readers a set of Petit Etteilla cards and a fully annotated translation of his 1773 revised text. The book presents Etteilla’s deck and interpretive methods as the very first book on ‘how to read cards’, making Etteilla the Father of Cartomancy. Etteilla’s original text is completely translated by Caitlín Matthews with commentary and practices to help readers practically learn: his full tutorial for making a deck of your own are also given, along with eight original spreads. In Etteilla's system, each of 33 card’s associated words are printed on the card, allowing readers to address the client’s question without need of memorizing. Card meanings of both upright and reversed playing cards are quickly read from the random placement in tableau spreads. The cards and book are beautifully designed by Rebecca Birrell. |
